The historic park of Villa Salvati in Monte Roberto, a historic residence in the Marche region, is located in the municipality of Monte Roberto, at the heart of the Castelli di Jesi.

Villa Salvati was built in Pianello Vallesina, a hamlet of Monte Roberto in the province of Ancona, between 1805 and 1820 at the behest of Serafino Salvati (1755-1835), a wealthy landowner who made his fortune as an industrial entrepreneur. The neoclassical-style project was designed by Roman architect Giuseppe Camporese (1763-1822), who also conceived a grand entrance featuring a long avenue of lime trees. The goal of the 2021 restoration of the historic park, funded by the Province of Ancona with over โ‚ฌ400,000, was to preserve the arboreal heritage of the ancient estate and allow the on-site school, the “Salvati Agricultural Vocational Institute,” to safely use essential outdoor spaces for educational activities.
Due to years of poor maintenance, the centuries-old lime trees (Tilia cordata) had been prone to repeated and sudden falls. As a result, all the trees along the main avenue underwent a substantial pruning, reducing their height and canopy volume. In addition, we replaced 17 missing lime trees with large specimens, over 9 meters tall, sourced from our nurseries. Along both sides of the avenue, 4,000 Buxus plants were planted, ensuring the perspective effect originally envisioned by architect Camporese.

The restoration of the exedra, which surrounds and “welcomes” the main villa building, was also a significant undertaking. A controlled pruning of the existing cypress trees, including the removal of damaged and unstable specimens as well as other invasive species, was followed by the planting of 34 large Cupressus sempervirens trees, necessary to restore a dramatic and impactful arboreal screen. The project also included the installation of a remote-controlled automatic irrigation system with multifunction sensors and the underground installation of a water reserve with two storage tanks, providing a total capacity of 122 cubic meters.

This project was carried out in collaboration with architect Riccardo Picciafuoco, environmental and territorial planner Paola Naponelli, and for the Province of Ancona, President Luigi Cerioni, Director Engineer Alessandra Vallasciani, and Surveyor Antonio Paglia.
